Journeyman's Pickaxe
The Journeyman's Pickaxe is the Tier 3 gathering tool used to mine ore in Albion Online. Equipping it increases the amount and speed of mining at ore deposits — the natural next step once you leave the early tiers and want to gather more efficiently.
This page has the full recipe, live prices for every material across all cities, and a calculator that tells you whether it's better to buy the finished pickaxe, craft it, or farm the resources.

How to craft the Journeyman's Pickaxe
The pickaxe is made at the Toolmaker, available in every city. The Tier 3 recipe consumes 6× Chestnut Planks (T3) and 2× Bronze Bars (T3), so it relies on both refined wood and refined metal.
As with any crafting, part of the materials is returned by the Resource Return Rate (RRR). That return rises significantly with focus and in the city with a tool bonus, which directly changes the final cost. Adjust the RRR in the calculator to match your setup.
Buy, craft or farm?
Tools tend to have thin margins: the finished pickaxe on the market often costs about the same as (or less than) its materials. The outcome depends on your city's prices and your RRR.
If you gather the wood and ore yourself, the cost of the refined materials drops sharply and crafting usually pays off. Use the calculator above, switching each material between Buy, Craft and Farm, to find the most profitable route with live prices.
Usage and economy tips
The pickaxe loses durability with use and must be replaced, creating steady demand from gatherers — a stable niche for volume crafters.
Use a pickaxe of equal or higher tier than the deposit you're mining: it improves yield and unlocks higher-tier ore. Enchanted versions (.1 to .3) increase the gathered amount even further.
To sell, target where gatherers are: cities near mining zones and hubs like Caerleon usually move tools well.
FAQ
What is the Pickaxe used for in Albion Online?
The pickaxe is the mining tool: it's used to gather ore from deposits in the world. Without it you can't mine efficiently.
Where do I craft the Journeyman's Pickaxe?
At the Toolmaker, available in every Albion city.
What materials does the T3 Pickaxe need?
6× Chestnut Planks (T3) and 2× Bronze Bars (T3), plus the station's crafting fee.
